Wilderness Week Fly-in Adventure from Anchorage
Wilderness Week Fly-in Adventure Not a tour, but an intense one-week course designed to get you into the Alaskan backcountry and teach you the skills you need to have a great time, look for wildlife, and enjoy the spectacular scenery. No experience is needed but this challenging trip will also provide experienced outdoors people with a lot of Alaska-specific knowledge as well as a fully supported week of backpacking in the mountains. A great way to start an adventure vacation in Alaska! We'll use a small Alaskan bush plane to fly us, one at a time, to a remote landing strip in the Talkeetna mountains. A great opportunity to really get away from it all and experience the REAL Alaska!
Cancellation Policy: There are no refunds. All sales are final. Change Fee Policy: If changes are allowed on a tour or activity, a $20.00 per reservation change fee will be applied for any change to a reservation. Please note that some tours and activities do not allow any changes. Date changes can be made only if we can confirm availability on the new date. While we cannot guarantee any changes can be made, all change requests must be submitted a minimum of 24 hours prior to the tour departure and must be handled on an individual basis through our Reservations Center. Alaska has 14 times the number of aircraft per capita as the rest of the US. Over 8000 planes are here and many of these are used to access the "bush". From a big DeHaviland Otter on floats to the famous Super Cub with room for just one passenger, we've got planes that will get us just about anywhere we need to go. Join our Wilderness Week and you'll find yourself strapped into the back of a Super Cub for a short "hop" over some spectacular scenery to a beautiful spot in the Talkeetna Mountains. It would take you days to hike there! Fly-in trips require a flexible attitude because flying these small planes in Alaska is very dependent on the weather. We try to have contingency plans but some delays may be unavoidable. Does flying cost more than driving? Sure, but you can't beat the time savings and fly-in trips are still quite affordable. This program is somewhat different than most of our one-week trips in that your guides take on more instructor & facilitator roles. The participants take on more decision making, route finding & camp chores as they gain hands-on experience. The flight in to our remote landing strip will be a highlight of your adventure. Details Your training starts with access to detailed preparation information on a website. You'll get practical advice on gear, clothing and conditioning for your trip. On Day 1 we'll pick you up in Anchorage and, after a gear check, we'll head out to the Matanuska Glacier for a day of ice climbing. That evening at our Base Camp we'll gear up for an early start on our backcountry adventure the next day. Then, exact routes will vary, but you'll be spending 5 full days in the backcountry; carrying everything you need on your back and traveling through forests and into alpine areas. Each day will bring new challenges and learning opportunities. Over the course of the week you'll learn the following skills:
