Alpine Hike on the Alyeska Glacier from Girdwood

Discover the Alyeska Glacier

The Alyeska Glacier is nestled in Glacier Bowl of the Chugach Mountains. Overlooking breathtaking views of the Turnagain Arm and towering alpine peaks, you will be dazzled by traveling on a snow covered glacier during the Alaskan Midnight Sun.

Hikers ride the Scenic Alyeska Tram up to 2,300 feet & back down to the Alyeska Hotel near sea level. From the upper mountain tram, you will hike a scenic ridgeline surrounded by the 7 glaciers of the Girdwood Valley and outstanding views up to the glacier - making photo & rest stops along the way.

In totality, the hiking is 2 hours over a distance of one mile round-trip with an 800 foot elevation gain. At the glacier's edge you will gear up with climbing harnesses, ropes and/or crampons, NEOS over-boots and learn about glacier travel before heading onto the glacier itself.

AT LEAST ONE WEEK MINIMUM ADVANCE BOOKING REQUIRED. MINIMUM OF 2 TOTAL PARTICIPANTS REQUIRED FOR THIS TOUR TO OPERATE. Tour does not include hotel pick-up or transportation to Girdwood. Guests are required to sign a liability waiver. No children under age 10 allowed. Please reserve online, or call us toll-free at 888-321-3640. There is a $5.95 USD processing fee per order. This is a flat fee regardless of the number of tickets or tours purchased on an order.
There is a service charge per ticket. This charge will be reflected on your summary before you checkout. The total shown includes any and all taxes, fuel surcharges, and service fees. There are no additional charges, unless otherwise specified.

Cancellation Policy:

There are no refunds. All sales are final.

Change Fee Policy: If changes are allowed on a tour or activity, a $20.00 per reservation change fee will be applied for any change to a reservation. Please note that some tours and activities do not allow any changes. Date changes can be made only if we can confirm availability on the new date. While we cannot guarantee any changes can be made, all change requests must be submitted a minimum of 24 hours prior to the tour departure and must be handled on an individual basis through our Reservations Center.

Trips include all equipment, naturalist glacier guides, tram ticket, 5:1 ratio and interpretive natural history, ecology and glaciology discussions.

A granola bar snack and water are provided.

This trip is great for families, groups & solo travelers.

Trips operate in all weather conditions.

This is a moderate to strenuous activity; however, no experience is necessary.

WHAT TO WEAR

This is necessary in order to participate on this tour. Wear comfortable warm clothes, dressing in layers (fleece jacket, rain jacket/pants, gloves, wool/fleece hat, sunglasses, ball cap) hiking boots or running shoes, backpack and don't forget your camera. COTTON ATTIRE is not recommended!

ETHICS

Guides personally practice and teach "Leave No Trace" (LNT) principles. All garbage from snacks etc will be packed out. Your guides strive to approach zero environmental impact and support the Access Fund on conservation projects, land acquisitions and climbing policy.

ACCESSIBILITY & LIABILITY

Services are offered to guests of all ages ranging from 2 to 70. Climbing is rigorous in nature; therefore, participants must sign a Liability Waiver to acknowledge they understand the nature of the activity and the dangers inherent in it.

Handicap access is limited; however, accommodation have been made for disabled persons in the past and guides are willing to do their best to give everyone an opportunity to climb. Examples include arranging appropriate transportation, additional rigging (i.e. fixed lines) and a 1 to 1+ client to guide ratio for technical climbing.
